For 2010, Red River Mutual is a proud sponsor of Habitat for Humanity Winnipeg. In addition to funding, several Red River staff will be taking part in a ‘sustainable’ home build this summer. Habitat for Humanity Winnipeg, founded in 1987, has built 179 homes offering partner families a hand up, not a hand out. Families are able to purchase their homes with a no down payment, interest free mortgage with payments geared to family income rather than the value of the property thus allowing them to build equity in their home. As a mutual, we have no stockholders. Policyholders own the company. This means we can focus on the safety and enhancement of communities rather than on generating stockholder returns. For us, community refers to both the people in our home towns and the larger world community. We trust MCC and MEDA to provide us a link to communities around the world. Red River Mutual is proud to once again support the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) and Mennonite Economic Development Associates (MEDA). Continue reading ‘$18,000 support for MCC and MEDA’
